Jeepers Creepers is a 2001 American horror film written and directed by Victor Salva. The film derives its title from the 1938 song “Jeepers Creepers” which is featured in the film. Jonathan Breck stars as The Creeper.
College siblings Trish (Gina Philips) and Darry (Justin Long) encounter a flesh-eating demon along a barren rural highway. After a harrowing car chase, they investigate suspicious activity near an abandoned church, where a corrugated pipe leads to unimaginable horrors. What follows is a cat-and-mouse game against the regenerating demon, which feeds on fear-and selected body parts-according to a psychic (Patricia Belcher) who adds chilling portent to the routine climax in a besieged police station…
The film was a sleeper hit and led to a sequel, Jeepers Creepers 2. A further sequel also directed by Salva, Jeepers Creepers 3: Cathedral, is due for release this year.

“There are shades of Near Dark, Mimic and Assault on Precinct 13, as the plot moves from a recognisable threat to a place beyond experience. It is to Salva’s great credit that he retains credulity in the face of impossible fear. Nothing like this could ever happen and yet it does and you will not forget.” Angus Wolfe Murray, Eye For Film
“Jeepers Creepers is gorgeously shot, overflowing with perfect pans and cranes, shadows are in all the right places and it’s a genuinely unsettling visual experience. We’ve all had those great film ideas that sound so perfect in our heads but would never translate so well to the screen, hell, that’s why so many book-to-film adaptations implode! This is simply one of those, two-thirds terrifying road-trip from and to hell, one-third bizarro creature feature with a bit of a depressing ending. See it for the set-up, stay for the photography.”

I seriously hate the Jeeper Creeper films. Good ideas that need to be made by other directors and screenwriters. In the first, if I was the lady psychic, I would have grabbed that teen bitch by the neck, slammed her into the wall and said “Listen you smart ass bitch, I am trying to save you and your brother, so shut up and do what I say!” Plus, knowing Salva’s past history, his fetishy camera love of the teenage male body is a little disturbing.
