More than 20,000 Christians from the ‘Return to Order’ campaign have signed a petition calling for Netflix to cancel Good Omens. The only thing is, the series is being shown on Amazon Prime!
The Christians, who are part of an offshoot of the US Foundation for a Christian Civilisation, argue that Good Omens is “another step to make satanism appear normal, light and acceptable”, and “mocks God’s wisdom”. Furthermore, they are upset that God is “voiced by a woman” – Frances McDormand – the Antichrist is a “normal kid” and, most importantly, “this type of video makes light of Truth, Error, Good and Evil, and destroys the barriers of horror that society still has for the devil”.
Writer Neil Gaiman responded on Twitter, saying: “I love that they are going to write to Netflix to try and get #GoodOmens cancelled. Says it all really. This is so beautiful … Promise me you won’t tell them?”
Eventually, Amazon responded and joined in the mockery: “Hey @netflix,” they tweeted, “we’ll cancel Stranger Things if you cancel Good Omens.”
Update: The Return to Order zealots that created the embarrassing petition addressed to the wrong company have since switched their religious wrath onto Amazon and upped their goal to 35,000 signatures.
Good Omens is a six-part British television fantasy serial based on the 1990 novel Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman.
The series will be directed by Douglas Mackinnon and written by Gaiman, who will also serve as showrunner. It is produced by BBC Studios, Narrativia and The Blank Corporation and is set to be released in 2019 on Amazon Prime. A conventional broadcast on BBC Two will follow.
The series stars David Tennant as the demon Crowley and Michael Sheen as the angel Aziraphale trying to prevent the Apocalypse. Other actors include Jon Hamm, Anna Maxwell Martin, Josie Lawrence, Adria Arjona, Michael McKean, Jack Whitehall, Miranda Richardson and Nick Offerman.

Really looks good!
Looking forward to it
This would be really interesting - if it hadn’t already happened to me once. The Apocalypse is so first century.
