The following is a listing of movies that have generally been suggested to be the worst horror films of all-time. People asked us repeatedly to produce this list and although it’s difficult to define a “worst” movie, we have tried to apply universally accepted modes of critical appraisal and aesthetics. Plus, common sense from a fan’s point of view.

This listing is not intended to be damning; in fact, some of the admittedly atrocious movies here are favourites of ours. Just because a movie is ineptly made it doesn’t necessarily mean it isn’t still entertaining, or even bizarrely endearing.
This listing is not intended to denigrate the efforts of earnest filmmakers, amateur wannabes or even opportunistic hacks.
We do not believe the supposedly amusing approach to mocking cult cinema taken by the likes of Golden Turkey, Razzie or riffing, has any value, even when it is clearly aimed at the lowest of the low. Smug comedians can easily deride the efforts of inept filmmakers as their movies can offer easy pickings. However, it’s the amateurish auteurs and the (perhaps) awful movies they made that are remembered, not the often shadowy cheap laugh-makers, who return to their uncreative lives once they have delivered their (perhaps bitter) barbs.
Nonetheless, there are some shockingly bad films here that can defy the patience of even the most hardened horror addict. After all, the listing contains abominations such as Delitti, Goremet: Zombie Chef from Hell and Satanwar.
This initial trawl of the worst horror/sci-fi movies has focused mainly on those movies intended (often amazingly so) for theatrical release. Clearly, there are 1000s of low budget snoozers that have been pumped out since the advent of home viewing releases began with the VHS revolution in the early 1980s, continued with direct-to-DVD and now digital video-on-demand.
Anyone could spend a depressing lifetime cataloguing the atrocities that have been presented for our home ‘entertainment’ during the last 35 years. Yet, why would they? So, this listing merely offers a snapshot of the awfulness that’s out there, especially free on Amazon Prime. It’s a work-in-progress, a horrendous headache a-happening. That said, we’ll try and offer as much terror tripe as we can cope with so please revisit as we regularly update this movie muck-chuck.
Thematically, as this listing has grown, it’s become clear that horror films that involve rock bands in their plot are often poor, those with the military or navy in many scenes tend to drag on, and many of the most atrocious movies in the world seem to have emanated from Texas. That said, we have to look at many more movies from around the world yet and completely recognise that it’s somewhat US-centric at the moment, mainly because there are so many terrible American movies and commentators have previously focused on their homegrown product.
Please feel free to suggest additions (especially mainstream bombs), or perhaps send us your outrage that we’ve included a film you love.

Anything by Rob Zombie.
Why is The Screaming Skull filmed so dreadfully out of focus? That lovely woman had a marvelous body and the poor focus really ruined the majority of the fabulous nighty and dressing down for the night shots. What a bod!! Why would the hubby want to get rid of her -I don’t get it?
This is a good comprehensive list, but ‘Bloodbath At The House Of Death”, ‘The Monster Club”, ‘I Don’t Want To Be Born(The Monster)” are classics, but I would have included ‘Surf Nazi’s Must Die”, ‘Toxic Avenger III & IV”, ‘Night Train To Terror”, (anthology), ‘Frostbiter:Wrath Of The Wendigo”, ‘Don’t Panic!”, ‘Monster Dog”, ‘Halloween 4, 5,6 & Resurrection” , ‘The Clown”, ‘The Children Of Ravensgate”, ‘Omen IV- The Awakening”, ‘Grave Of The Vampire”, ‘The Stuff”, ‘Street Trash”, ‘Puppetmaster IV” and the film’s beyond, ‘Phantasm IV-Oblivion”, ‘Raiders Of The Living Dead”, the re-makes’ of ‘Prom Night”, ‘April Fool’s Day”, ‘Day Of The Dead”, ‘Dawn Of The Dead”, ‘Day Of The Dead 2-Contagium”, ‘Bodymelt”, ‘Beyond Re-animator”, ‘Creepshow 3″, ‘Redkneck Zombies”, ‘Chopper Chick’s In Zombie Town” & the sequal, ‘Graveyard Shift and the sequal-‘The Understudy”, the re-makes’ of ‘Psycho”, ‘The Texas Chainsaw Massacre”, ‘A Nightmare On Elm Street”, ‘Texas Chainsaw”, ‘Video Dead”, ‘Species III”, ‘TerrorVision”, ‘Hellraiser-Inferno, Hellseeker”, ‘Hellworld” and all the sequal’s since, ‘Night Of The Demon’s 2-Angela’s Revenge”, the remake of ‘Night Of The Demons”, ‘Demons 3-The Ogre”, ‘Edge Of Sanity”, ‘Warlock 2 & 3″, ‘Dark Dealer”, ‘Human Centipede 1 & 2″, ‘Galaxy Of Terror”, ‘The Last Cannibal World”, ‘The Runestone”, ‘The Curse”, ‘Gothika”, ‘Wishmaster 3 & 4″, ‘Seed Of Chucky”, ‘Quicksilver Highway”, ‘House IV”.
Grave of the Vampire? I think not, my friend. That is a low-budget ’70s classic.
I could scroll through this over and over and over. The images alone are entertaining. “Bloodbath at the House of Death’s” movie poster might be my favorite.
We just got a DVD compilation the other day that had “Deathrow Gameshow” and it should be on here, however, it’s also so damn entertaining I don’t think you can do it. Take a look at it when you have time. It’s fantastic.
Thanks for this.
Hi again,
Forgot another title of the worst Horror of all time, the re-make of ‘It’s Alive”, I would say any sequal’s after the original ‘Return Of The Living Dead”, lastly ‘Candyman III”.
