Dead List – USA, 2017: updated with half a dozen reviews

‘Pray you’re not on it.’

Dead List is a 2017 American comedy horror anthology film written and directed by Holden Andrews (segments: ‘Zander’, ‘Kush’), Ivan Asen (segment ‘Scott’), and Victor Mathieu (segments: ‘Jason’ and ‘Bob’).

Calvin (Deane Sullivan) is competing with five other actors — Zander, Scott, Kush, Jason and Bob — for a major movie role. Stopping at nothing to win the role of a lifetime, he uses a demonic book to curse his fellow actors, with each actor being killed off in their own separate unique and terrifying chapter.

Reviews:

“All in all,  Dead List might feel like a glorified home-movie, but it is consistently fun. Sometimes it manages to hold your attention by making you laugh at it (thanks to its DIY makeup effects and wonky performances)  but this is often balanced out by moments that show genuine promise and talent. Either way, it’s never boring…” Harrison Abbott, Flickering Myth

Dead List misses the mark too many times to be remembered as a great low-budget horror anthology. A bit more coherence in the plot, better pacing and deeper characters would have made the world of difference. That being said it does have genuinely good moments.” Games, Brrraaains & a Head-Banging Life

“Some of the special effects were decent and some parts were entertaining, Eric Pierce and Josh Eichenbaum seemed to be the only actors in the film who were trying to act. The story overall was unoriginal with a book falling out of the sky and whoever’s name is written in it dies… Death Note much? The script showed weak creativity…” Daniel S. Liuzzi, Horror Fuel

“The film offers a lot of variety and moves along at a brisk pace. The main characters are all actors, but there’s enough that’s different about them to keep things interesting. The original music by Bobby Brader, and the film’s theme by Victor Mathieu are both effective.” John Migliore, Indie Horror Online

” …Dead List looks rough from a production standpoint. There’s some really ugly looking cinematography at times and a lot of handheld shaky cam. Thankfully it gets better as the segments go on, don’t let the beginning scare you off. Despite its flaws, Dead List is an overall enjoyable watch and shows promise from those involved.” Jim Morazzini, Voices from the Balcony

“The opening couple of segments in this anthology are honestly rough. Camera angles and cutaways are amateur. Just when I was going to give up on this collection of deaths, along comes one of the most fun, practical effect, body melting scenes I’ve ever seen. The segment “Kush” from writer, director and actor Holden Andrews stands out among the rest.” Jason Minton, Without Your Head
