ANNE (2017) Reviews of psychological horror

Anne is a 2017 American horror film written and directed by Joseph Mazzaferro (The Haunting of Julia Fields; Share or Die; Dybbuk Box: The Story of Chris ChambersHalloween at Aunt Ethel’s; Scathing).

The Mazz Appeal production stars Gail Yost, Michael Kenneth Fahr and Natalie Pitcher.

Plot:
A mentally unwell woman (Gail Yost) with a severe personality disorder develops a strange relationship with her dolls. She becomes victim to insomnia and even self-mutilation leaving her son to unfold the strange truth about Anne’s illness…

Reviews:
“There is no clear delineation between what is reality and what is happening inside characters’ (mainly Anne’s and Nick’s) minds, making for stilted transitions that do not relay the story fluidly. In the end, it all comes together and you will understand, but the journey to that realization is a drawn-out and entirely snooze-worthy festival of dolls.” Cryptic Rock

” …it’s really creepy and likely to remain with you for quite a while, thanks mostly to its visual strength that gets the most of very limited locations and means, and of course its strong central performance by Gail Yost, who carries an estimated 75% of the movie completely on her own.” Search My Trash
