‘Serve or be served’
Channel Zero is an American horror anthology Syfy television series created by Nick Antosca, who serves as writer, showrunner, and executive producer.
The third series, Butcher’s Block, was inspired by Kerry Hammond’s creepypasta Search and Rescue Woods. It stars Olivia Luccardi, Holland Roden and Rutger Hauer.
A young woman named Alice (Olivia Luccardi) moves to a new city and learns about a series of disappearances that may be connected to a baffling rumour about mysterious staircases in the city’s worst neighborhoods. With help from her sister, she discovers that ‘something’ is preying on the city’s residents…
“Here is a show that understands the machinations of horror. A show that realizes there’s more to creating something scary than just referencing horror movies from the past. True fear lurks in the imagination, and Channel Zero knows exactly how to work its way inside your subconscious and run wild. It’s remains the best horror series on television right now.” Chris Evangelista, Slant Film
“Like previous seasons, Butcher’s Block is part commentary on real-world issues. It explores trauma, grief and even mental illness without making these issues feel like the show’s villain. While the new season often spirals into the horrifically absurd to the point where it feels comical, Butcher’s Block retains the emotional depth that pushed previous seasons into the realm of prestige horror.” Chelsea Tatham, Tampa Bay Times
“The result is the best season of Channel Zero yet, and one that demonstrates just how far Antosca and his crew can take the series if future seasons choose to depart similarly from their creepypasta origins. Disturbing and visually compelling, Butcher’s Block makes for a welcome return of the best horror series on television.” Kevin Yeoman, Screen Rant
“To be sure, Channel Zero: Butcher’s Block still has some of the grief elements that helped give the first two seasons their emotional depth. But now with the aforementioned Lynchian quality where something can become so horrifically absurd that only maddened laughter will suffice as a reaction.” Nick Venable, Cinema Blend
There are stomach-churning moments of fleshy frights, but if you’re worried about the show turning into a sloppy splatterfest, put your fears to rest. Channel Zero remains inventive and unusual, tapping into the surreal and mingling it with potent character drama to conjure psychological terror.” Haleigh Foutch, Collider
