‘Some of the most disturbing footage ever recovered’
Behind the Sightings is a 2017 American found footage mockumentary horror film directed by Tony Cadwell (producer of Crawl to Me) from a screenplay co-written with Norman Alston.
Plot:
Based on over 112 hours of footage recovered from the personal belongings of aspiring filmmakers Todd and Jessica Smith. The husband and wife filmmaking duo were investigating the 2016 creepy clown sighting epidemic.
The first clown sightings occurred in August 2016 in Greenville, South Carolina. Authorities were alerted to reports by neighbourhood kids stating that creepy clowns were appearing in the woods near an apartment complex.
The clown sightings spread to all fifty US states and across Europe. Todd and Jessica were attempting to track down clown sighting witnesses and the clowns involved in a rash of creepy clown sightings that plagued an eastern North Carolina community…
Reviews:
“Mockumentaries and found footage films are really a dime a dozen these days – but this one’s better than most of them as it successfully creates its own mythology (despite a rather ridiculous premise) and actually structures its build-up like a thriller rather than just relying on screaming and drawn-out shaky camera sequences to create tension (though there’s plenty of that as well).” Search My Trash
“There are some very disturbing moments in the film that involves especially Todd. When he experiences a clown midway through the film, he gets assaulted and in a moment of fear, leaves without his wallet. This causes some major tension between him and his wife as she becomes a little more enthusiastic about the documentary and interviews.” World Film Geek
