BUS PARTY TO HELL (2017) Reviews and overview

‘Next stop, death!’

Bus Party to Hell – formerly: Party Bus to Hell – is a 2017 American horror film written and directed by Rolfe Kanefsky (The Black Room; Nightmare ManThere’s Nothing Out There) from a story by producers Sonny and Michael Mahal. The movie stars Tara Reid, Sadie Katz, Stefani Blake and Devanny Pinn.

Plot:

When a party bus on its way to Burning Man breaks down in the desert and in the middle of a group of satanic worshippers, all hell literally breaks loose.

A massacre leaves seven survivors trapped on the bus, fighting for their lives while wondering if someone is not what they seem…

Reviews:

“The general appearance and kick-ass soundtrack, puts PBTH or BPTH a class above its similar slasher/horror/gore relatives and almost to the level a high budget teen coming of age movie (American Pie-esk!). Adding the killings fuelled by the lust for blood and nudity (lots of nudity!), there’s enough going on here to please most fans.” The B Club

“The acting is fine but not great. Similarly, the gore effects and costumes work, though the brief bits of CG are rough. The camera and sound have some nice turns, but it has plenty of sticking moments. Then there is the script, which is dumb, but the writers know it and make it part of the fun.” Cryptic Rock

“Want a solid plot and character performances that are award-worthy? – then feel free to check out Dunkirk, but if it’s a psychotic, carnage-wracked, breast-fest best suited for a late Saturday night watch, then allow me to recommend this Party Bus To Hell.” Dread Central

“The practical gore is suitably splashy, with a bravura cast-culling massacre 20 minutes in […] Unfortunately, Kanefsky is still fixated on self-conscious, endlessly referential humour […] Executive producer Tara Reid gets to hack up marauding mummies before taking an early exit, and the monsters spout 80’s style one-liners.” Horrorscreams Videovault

“The story doesn’t make a ton of sense, the exposition is forced and awkward, and the cast largely behaves as if there’s a running bet on who can chew the most scenery. However, the fun, campy tone is maintained throughout, with tons of blood, nudity, and absurd kills to boot.” Modern Horrors

“There’s blood and boobs in all the right places, the violence might be at times over-the-top but it’s off-set by (self-)irony in writing, direction and performances, the thing moves along at a steady pace and gets the most out of its limited locations…” Search My Trash

“Seriousness isn’t even considered and it’s a better film for it. The usual budgeted CGI that accompany these features is limited in Kanefsky’s Las Vegas lust in the dust project. Cutaways and cheap props make for more fun…” Without Your Head

Choice dialogue:

“The hills have eyes… ears, nose and throats.”

“Wow, you’re just all types of crazy, aren’t you lady?”
