Hellboy is a 2018 American fantasy action horror movie and an R-rated reboot of the Hellboy franchise directed by Neil Marshall (The Descent; Dog Soldiers) from a screenplay by Andrew Cosby, Christopher Golden and Hellboy graphic novel creator Mike Mignola.
The most recent script draft was completed by Aron Coleite (Star Trek: Discovery). Larry Gordon and Lloyd Levin are producing along with Mike Richardson of Dark Horse Entertainment. Millennium Films and Lionsgate are backing the film.
A release date of January 11, 2019 had been scheduled by Lionsgate but this has been put back to April 12.
David Harbour (Stranger Things) plays the titular character, Ian McShane (Pirates of the Caribbean movies; Too Scared to Scream; The Ballad of Tam Lin) is Professor Bloom and Milla Jovovich (Resident Evil) is the Blood Queen. Sasha Lane is Alice Monaghan, Penelope Mitchell is Ganeida and Daniel Dae Kim as Ben Daimio (who replaced Ed Skrein). Sophie Okonedo, Brian Gleeson and Alistair Petrie, have been added to the cast.
Okonedo plays Lady Hatton, a seer at the Osiris Club, “an ancient English club dedicated to uncovering supernatural mysteries.” Petrie plays a member of the club, Lord Adam Glaren and Gleeson play a wizard named Merlin.
Hellboy travels to England, where he must defeat Nimue, Merlin’s consort, and the Blood Queen. But their battle will bring about the end of the world, a fate he desperately tries to turn away…
The movie was initially announced as Hellboy: Rise of the Blood Queen.
