‘All you need is dead’
Dead Squad aka Dead Squad: Temple of the Undead is a 2018 science fiction horror feature film directed by music composer Dominik Hauser – making his feature film directorial debut – from a screenplay co-written with Nancy Thornhill.
The movie stars Conan Stevens (who played Man-Thing), Jonathan Looper, Ryan Sobolski, and Réka Gavaldi.
A group of six young people become lost in the jungle during a river rafting trip and stumble upon a long lost ruin that is home to a host of mysterious monsters…
“Dead Squad: Temple of the Undead is a good fit for those looking for “another gory zombie/monster film”, filled with exotic locations, dubbed voices, great make-up, bad acting and some bizarre scenes you wouldn’t expect. Oh yes, and it is anything but boring – just about enough for late night entertainment.” Tim Tal, BZ Film
“The performances are so terrible that you root for everyone, even the “good” kids, to be slaughtered wholesale […] the last scene is even dumber than the preceding 80 minutes, if that’s even possible. Dead Squad: Temple of the Undead, with its (also) unnecessarily cumbersome title, is pretty much worthless.” Dan Franzen, Critical Movie Critics
“What money was saved on script writing and decent actors was spent on effects which are impressive enough for a film that is found lacking in almost every other department. By time we get to the twist (used very loosely) most will have checked out though…” Games, Brrraaains & A Head-Banging Life
” …very colourful and good-looking cinematography, loads of sequences filled to the brim with gratuitous nudity and some cool set design, and you and up with a very enjoyable, yet flawed cinematic experience for fans of nonsensical gore and throwback exploitation…” Horror World & Reviews
“There’s a very capable and entertaining zombie movie buried beneath too much crap. And ultimately all of the weird zombie sex and stupid humor ruin what could have been a welcome addition to the zombie genre.” Lyle’s Movie Reviews
“The main downside is the pace, as too many inactive spots linger and repetition arises near the end.” Splatter Critic
We’re with Games, Brrraaains & A Head-Banging Life on this one (see above). It’s a totally moronic waste of time, despite some reasonable looking low budget effects. Sloppy gore and some gratuitous female nudity cannot atone for the rest of this insultingly awful mess. Dead Squad has been added to our Worst Horror listing, unfortunately.
