A sheriff and an estranged family must escape not only the impending eruption of what was thought to be a dormant volcano but also a horde of zombies brought to life by the cursed mountain…
“Like with all these Syfy Channel type films, the core concept is fun, and seems to promise 80 odd minutes of cheesy goodness, but in fact we get all of 15 minutes of fun scenes whilst the running time is padded out with the usual stock characters…” Ben Bussey, Brutal as Hell
“The acting is utterly unconvincing, with Thomas Downey making Tommy Wiseau look like Marlon Brando, among other forgettable faces. The film may offer the most tenuous and trying set-up to any zombie movie, and that alone might be something worth a round of applause, but certainly none of your time.” Dominic Cuthbert, Starburst
“You know, I’d almost be ok with unburnable, lava-barfing zombies if the story and cast were ok. But I’ve heard better line delivery at 4 am at a bar than the horrible acting on display in this film. There’s some kind of story involving an estranged family trying to rescue their reclusive grandfather in the middle of the woods that just feels like filler in between lava zombie attacks because it is…” Ambush Bug, Ain’t It Cool News
“The Burning Dead belabors so much of its short running time, tediously setting up its razor-thin premise and non-entities assortment of characters, only to make matters worse by taking itself far too seriously when the few zombies emerge to do what zombies do … Trejo pops up briefly at the beginning and end in a framing device divorced from any of the action in between… ” Foywonder, Dread Central
