The film received generally positive reviews from mainstream critics upon its release and was particularly well-received among horror film critics, noting it for being a genuinely scary and brutally violent example of the so-called New French Extremity.

Reviews:

‘Though it follows on the heels of several blood-soaked home invasion movies, Inside has more than enough to stun even the most jaded horror fan. The film isn’t perfect, with a few lapses in logic as well as a last act half-baked twist (nowhere near as ludicrous as High Tension’s bullshit, thankfully) but these seem like minor nit-picks when compared to the sheer power of this film.’ Dread Central

‘From the tense atmosphere (set against the backdrop of the Paris riots) to the incredible sound-work (these French horror movies are case studies in utilizing sound to maximize scares) to the terror that follows and doesn’t let up until the final, ridiculous ending, Inside is a textbook example of how to shock a disillusioned horror viewer like myself out of a mediocrity-induced coma.’ DVD Verdict

Inside grinds nerves and bludgeons emotions while building to an awesome volcanic climax.” Mike “McBeardo” McFadden, Heavy Metal Movies

Enfant terribles Julien Maury and Alexandre Bustillo cut a deep gash in the French “extreme horror” new wave with their slasher film extraordanaire … It’s a gory Gallic violence party of household weapons including knitting needles, a lamp, Lysol, sewing shears and – bonus points – the very creative use of a toaster.” Rolling Stone
