30 Days of Night (USA, 2007)

30 Days of Night is a 2007 American supernatural horror film based on the comic book miniseries of the same name. The film was directed by David Slade and stars Josh Hartnett, Melissa George, and Danny Huston. The story focuses on an Alaskan town beset by vampires as it enters into a thirty-day long polar night. Ted Adams, Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert produced via their Ghost House Pictures company.

30 Days of Night was originally pitched as a comic book, then as a film, but was rejected. Years later Steve Niles showed IDW Publishing the idea and it finally went into development as a comic book in 2002, proving to be highly successful. The 2007 film was produced on a budget of $30 million and grossed over $75.5 million.

  1. Them there vampires where proper brutal! With their dog-bark language and sharp black eyes. A cracking take on the genre that’s more in tune with the original mythology of the vampire pre-Stoker. The straight to DVD prequel effort just dirtied the waters.
