PUPPET KILLER (2017) Reviews and overview

Puppet Killer is a 2017 Canadian horror film produced and directed by Lisa Ovies (producer of 7 Demons TV series) from a screenplay co-written with Kevin Mosley. The movie stars Richard Harmon, Aleks Paunovic and Lisa Durupt.

Plot:

While celebrating Christmas at a cabin in the woods, a group of high school students are stalked by a psychotic killer obsessed with horror movie icons…

Reviews:

“Delivering the right mixture of horror and camp, the performances provide Ovies with room to skew everything from masculinity in genre films to the myth that scary movies will damage children. Puppet Killer is not for everyone, but those willing to go with it will find much to enjoy.” Cinema Axis

“Everyone in front and behind the camera looks like they are having genuine fun and the quality of the production turns it from being something that’s downright ‘silly’ into a love letter to the genre.” Horror DNA

” …Simon is an amusing Elmo-like creation who wields a pretty mean series of tools of death for a hand puppet. Ovies balances the horror and the humor well. Some of the kills are played for laughs while others sway more to the gory side. Puppet Killer occasionally goes for the easier broad joke at times, but overall it should appeal to horror movie aficionados…” Horror Fuel

Puppet Killer manages to play most of the kills fairly straight even as it gently parodies the genre. Though the scene of Simon wearing a hockey mask should get plenty of laughs. Most of the gags and references are a bit more subtle, however. Which is a good thing as the film goes to great lengths to keep us questioning Jamie’s sanity.” Voices from the Balcony
